Getting Started - FAFSA

FSA ID

The FSA ID is the username and password. The FSA ID has replaced the Federal Student Aid PIN and must be used to log in to certain U.S. Department of Education websites. Your FSA ID confirms your identity when you access your financial aid information and electronically sign Federal Student Aid documents. You must create a FSA ID, if you do not alrealy have one, before logging into fafsa.gov, The National Student Loan Data System at www.nslds.ed.gov, StudentLoans.gov, StudentAid.gov, and Agreement to Serve (ATS) at www.teach-ats.ed.gov. Please follow the steps below to create your FSA ID:

Step 1: Click the link to create a FSA ID when logging into one of the websites listed above. (Important: Only the owner of the FSA ID should create and use the account. NEVER share your FSA ID.

Step 2: Create a username and password, and enter your e-mail address.

Step 3: Enter your name, date of birth, Social Security number, contact information, and challenge questions and answers.

Step 4: If you have a Federal Student Aid PIN, you will be able to enter it and link it to your FSA ID. You can still create a FSA ID if you have forgotten or do not have a PIN.

Step 5: Review your information, read, and accept the terms and conditions.

Step 6: Confirm your e-mail address using the secure code, which will be sent to the e-mail address you entered when you created your FSA ID. Once you verify your e-mail address, you can use it instead of your username to log into the websites.

You can use your FSA ID to sign your FAFSA right away. You will be able to use your FSA ID to access the U.S. Department of Education's websites listed above once the Social Security Administration verifies your information in one to three days or if you have linked your PIN to your FSA ID.

Note: An applicant under the age of 13 cannot obtain a FSA ID to sign the FAFSA electronically.

Visit www.fafsa.gov to file the FAFSA electronically.
Click on Start Here.
Select the appropriate FAFSA. Choose 2024 - 2025 (Application is good fro Fall 2024, Spring 2025, and Summer 2025)
Complete, sign, and submit your FAFSA.

FILING VIA US MAIL – PAPER FORM

Request a paper FAFSA by calling 1-800-4FED-AID or 1-800-433-3243. Students may request up to three copies of the paper application and should receive their FAFSAs in 3-7 business days. Or you can complete and print a PDF FAFSA.
Complete the application and mail it to the address listed on the FAFSA. It normally takes around 4 weeks to process the application once it has been received.
Notification, called the Student Aid Report (SAR), will be returned through regular postal service mail. Schools listed on the FAFSA will also receive a copy of the SAR.

FAFSA APPLICATON PROCESS FOR APPLICANTS UNDER AGE 13

Applicants under the age of 13 cannot complete a FAFSA online because the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) prohibits its entity, including government agency, from electronically conducting business or communicating with a person under age 13. A person under the age of 13 who wishes to apply for financial aid must download and print the FAFSA application, complete it, and mail the completed application to the address below:
