Tasha Smith named to All-State Academic Team

Northeastern Technical College student Tasha Smith of Bennettsville was recently named to the Phi Theta Kappa South Carolina All-State Academic Team. Smith was among the state's highest achieving college students recognized at a ceremony held March 2 in Columbia, SC.

Tasha will graduate from NETC's Associate in Arts program in May and plans to transfer to Coker College. Currently, she works in an administrative capacity with the Department of Social Services (DSS), but her goal is to use her degrees to become a social worker for DSS and work in the child protective services division. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the National Technical Honor Society. Tasha is active in her community, helping with her community's Summer Food Program, the Adopt-A-Highway Program, and also works with Victory World Outreach Center's community outreach program.
Technical college presidents name students to the South Carolina All-State Academic Team on the basis of academic performance, leadership and service to their college and local communities. Students on the All-State Academic team will participate in the annual All-USA Academic Team competition in April, sponsored by the American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa.
"We're proud of Tasha and what she has achieved at NETC," said Dr. Ron Bartley, president of NETC. "I understand that she will be transferring to a Coker College and I have confidence she will succeed at Coker and in her chosen profession."

Phi Theta Kappa was founded in 1918 to emphasize and recognize academic excellence in two-year colleges. Today, Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 1.5 million members in the United States, U.S. territories, Canada and Germany.
