NETC struggled on the battlefield as the esports Call of Duty squad began their first week of playing.
Trailblazers Luke Byrd, Ethan Jones, Jeremy Clark, and David Hancock represented Northeastern Technical College on Call of Duty in 4 versus 4 competitions Oct. 3 against Iowa Western Community College in Week 1 of Tier 2 play.
NETC lost 3-0 against Iowa Western dropping 250-62 in Game 1 on map Hardpoint of Mercado Las Almas; losing 6-1 in Game 2 on Search and Destroy mode on map Mercardo Las Almas; and the third loss 3-0 in Game 3 took place on Control mode on map Himmelmatt Expo.
"This was the first game all four or our players were able to get tother and that showed in the team chemistry and their strategy in the first match," NETC Esports Tyler Nolan said. "I see a lot of room for improvement."
The Trailblazers will be reviewing game footage in preparation for Week 2 of play, Nolan said.
Trailblazer Billy Thompson (2-1) lost his Week 3 match 2-1 in Tier 1 play to Dallas College – Eastfield on Madden. Thompson won 28-17 in Game 1, but in Game 2, he lost in a close 35-28 match on the virtual football field. The tie-breaking bout decidedly went to Dallas College 31-7. Thompson takes on Harrisburg Area Community College (3-0) in Week 4.
NETC's Nick Oakley lost 3-0 in the best of five series against undefeated Bryant and Stratton College in Super Smash Bros.
NETC athletes play under the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Northeastern Technical College athletes must maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average and 12 credit hours for the semester. Under the NJCAA rules, there are no age caps for participation.
