NETC Awards 173 Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates to the Class of 2018

Class of 2018

Northeastern Technical College (NETC) held their 48th annual commencement May 19, at the Cheraw High School auditorium. Dr. Kyle Wagner, the college president, delivered the welcome address. Senator Kent Williams, representing Florence, Dillon, Marion, Marlboro, and Horry County, delivered the keynote speech.

Avonlea Samuel, an associate of arts graduate, and President of the Northeastern Technical College Government spoke about her journey to earning her college degree, and congratulated the graduates before the conferring and awarding of degrees and diplomas.

"Just like Northeastern's logo, each one of us has a compass which leads us to where we need to be. All our hard work, dedication, and tiring moments spent crying and drinking Red bulls, have all led us to this moment," said Samuel. "For some of you, Northeastern may be the last step in your academic journey before starting your professional careers. For others, like myself, our academic journey is a bit longer—or even just beginning, as we go on to four-year universities and beyond.

During the commencement ceremony, an Associate of Arts degree was awarded posthumously to Verkina Townsend, formerly of Bennettsville, and accepted on behalf of the family by her brother.
