Northeastern Technical College (NETC) employees are nominated for A. Wade Martin Innovation Awards this year.

NETC Student Engagement Department and Ron Stafford are nominated to receive the "A. Wade Martin Innovation Team of the Year" award for their efforts to plan and implement a Graduation Showcase to prepare students for progressive workforce placement after graduation. The Graduation Showcase included an interview closet, resume review/assistance, and mock interviewing.

Mark Knockemus, NETC English Instructor, is nominated for the "A. Wade Martin Innovator of the Year" award for his contribution to the college's transition to becoming an Open Educational Resource (OER) Institution. Knockemus combined Open Educational Resources with lecture notes and supplemental materials to create a textbook for his class, providing students a textbook at little cost.

Each year, the SC Technical College System presents the A. Wade Martin Award to individuals who employ innovative approaches to address challenges in technical education. Their achievements directly impact statewide economic development and the education of students.

A. Wade Martin was the first executive director of the technical and industrial training program in South Carolina. Regarded as one of the best industrial developers and occupational educators in the country, the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education established the A. Wade Martin "Innovator of the Year Award" in 1980 to pay tribute to his vision and innovation. The award reflects the foresight and standards of excellence exemplified by him.

Martin believed a trained labor force would attract industry and create jobs. Jobs lead to economic growth beneficial to all. NETC employees share in this belief.
