NETC Distributes CARES Act Grants to Eligible Students

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act set aside $30.75 billion for an Education Stabilization Fund. It gives funding to institutions to provide emergency financial aid grants to students whose lives have been disrupted and are facing economic challenges. Northeastern Technical College (NETC) received $272,182 to disburse to eligible students.
Institutions distributing CARES Act Grants are responsible for determining how grants will be distributed to students and how the amount of each student grant is calculated.

To be eligible for CARES Act grants, students must have been in attendance and enrolled in a qualifying program of study at NETC on March 13, 2020, the day the president declared a national emergency as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. It is also the last day NETC held class before transitioning to a virtual learning environment. DACA, Second Chance Pell, Incarcerated, Transient, Non-degree, and I-BEST students are not eligible for CARES Act grants.

1,333 NETC students are eligible for CARES Act funding and will receive mailed checks. Several students have already received their checks via mail. NETC mailed check to students on June 15, 2020.

"The lives of our students were disrupted, and many are facing financial challenges during this pandemic," said NETC President, Dr. Kyle Wagner. "The college is here for them, and we hope the grant will help provide some financial relief as they continue their journey to higher education."
