Top performers: Timothy Townsend of Bennettsville and Christine Blackburn of Pageland were recognized for their academic achievements.

Northeastern Technical College students Christine Blackburn and Timothy Townsend were among the 25 students enrolled at colleges across the state who have been named to the Phi Theta Kappa South Carolina All-State Academic Team at a ceremony March 12 at the State House.

The students named to the South Carolina All-State Academic Team were selected by the college presidents on the basis of academic performance, leadership accomplishments and service to their colleges and to their local communities. In addition, these students will participate in the annual All-USA Academic Team competition sponsored by the American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa, the Honor Society of the Two-Year College.

The students named to the All-State Academic Team join an elite group. Less than one percent of America's six million two-year college students have distinguished themselves with this superior level of academic achievement and service to their colleges and communities.

"These students have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and impressive records of service to their colleges and communities," said Dr. Darrel Staat, president of the S.C. Technical College System. "They are the best and brightest that our state's technical colleges have to offer, and I congratulate them on their many accomplishments."

Blackburn of Pageland is enrolled in the Machine Tool Technology program at NETC, and Townsend of Bennettsville is enrolled in the Electronics Technology program at NETC.
