The tournament was originally scheduled as a 36-hole event, but Mother Nature had other plans. Dangerous, inclement weather on Monday forced officials to reduce the format to 18 holes of stroke play. Tuesday brought a welcome change in scenery with clear skies and sunshine as far as the eye could see, though the warm appearance was deceiving. A persistent, chilly breeze kept temperatures from climbing throughout the day, making for tough scoring conditions.
Through it all, the Trailblazers competed with heart. Evan Cox led the team with a round of 86, finishing 14 over par. Rodney Atkinson was close behind, carding an 88, while Drake Morris posted an 89 to round out a tightly grouped top three. Cody Watkins added a 100 to complete the team's scorecard.
The day did come with a tough moment, however. Jack Delyra was forced to withdraw due to persistent pain in his left elbow, the same elbow that underwent Tommy John surgery less than seven months ago. The team wishes Jack a full and speedy recovery.
The Trailblazers don't have long to wait for their next opportunity. They hit the links again next week in the Columbia College collegiate event, set to be held at Timberlake Golf Club at Lake Murray in South Carolina.
