NETC's Department of Continuing Education's South Carolina Manufacturing Certification (SCMC) program has been in place for little over a year. In this short period of time, SCMC, often referred to as "Production Technician," has become one of the department's highest demand and most successful programs.
Opportunities to work in today's state-of-the art manufacturing field have been increasing by leaps and bounds throughout the state of South Carolina. To keep up with that growth, NETC has graduated 54 individuals from the certificate program over the past year with plans to expand the program to the Bennettsville in January 2015 and to the Dillon Campus later in the year.
"Our goal at the onset of the program was to train at least 80 unemployed or underemployed individuals," said Sherrie Chapman, Dean of Continuing Education.
Currently, NETC's Production Technician graduates are working in local industries that include Crown Cork and Seal, Palmetto Brick, Conbraco, INA-Schaeffler, and Stanley Tool. Companies in Marlboro County are also currently interviewing graduates.
Through the South Carolina Technical College System, the Production Technician program has been able to offer qualified students 100% scholarship funding with the goal of increasing their employability.
Upon completion of the program, students will have developed a resume', received a Silver Level or higher NCRC WorkKeys Certification and had soft skills training to prepare them for the interview day provided by NETC with local industries upon completion of the training.
The program trains graduates to be Work Ready to meet the demands in the state and allow them an opportunity for higher paying jobs. Students are eligible to receive certificates in five (5) different assessment levels upon a passing grade on the final exam.
For those who obtain all five, they will receive the full Certified Production Technician (CPT) designation through MSSC which is nationally recognized. Additional training provided at NETC through this program includes OSHA-10 Safety, Adult CPR and Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification.
Production Technician training provides both classroom and hands-on instruction over a period of approximately 10 weeks, teaching entry-level skills required for high-demand jobs in advanced manufacturing.
Individuals seeking more information on the SCMC Production Technician program should call the NETC Continuing Education division at (843) 921-6924 or 6920.
