Northeastern Technical College is helping to meet local workforce demands with the recent graduation of the second class of SCMC (South Carolina Manufacturing Certification) Production Technicians in the area.  The SCMC Production Technician program, which began last fall at NETC, provides nationally-recognized

The newest class of SCMC graduates include: Roger Baskins of Chesterfield, Rachel Blackwell of Cheraw, Antonio Brown of Wallace, James Brown of Bennettsville, Necla Byrd of Bennettsville, Brittany Dixon of Cheraw, Anthony Garris of Wallace, Robert Hatcher of Cheraw, Calesa McCollum of Bennettsville, Ronald "Lee" Merriman of Cheraw, Nena Mungo of Pageland, Chad Parke of Chesterfield, Timothy Smith of Cheraw, Maurice Streater of Cheraw, Danielle Thomas of Bennettsville, Jerry Truett of Patrick and Nicholas Webb of Wallace.

SCMC Production Technician program is part of NETC's Department of Continuing Education's workforce development initiative to help decrease the "skills gap" present between our local workforce and industry.  The department helps to determine training needs of local industry and develops programs to meet those needs.

Northeastern Technical College is now looking for individuals who are interested in the upcoming SCMC Production Technician programs in Marlboro and Dillon Counties, as well as for the current program in Chesterfield County.

The program provides100% scholarship funding for eligible residents of South Carolina who are veterans, unemployed, underemployed or even those who are would like to "re-career" into the field of advanced manufacturing.

The SCMC program is approximately 10 weeks long, and consists of 160 hours of classroom training and 40 hours of hands-on training. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates earn three nationally recognized certifications including MSSC Certified Production Technician, Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt and OSHA – General Industry.

In order to qualify for the program, applicants must be at least 18 years old; successfully complete a drug screen and background check ($20 fee); score silver (4) or better on the WorkKeys test; and have a high school diploma or GED.  Candidates who qualify should be prepared to adhere to the attendance policy and satisfactorily complete all components of the training.
