Christmas came early this year for Northeastern Technical College (NETC) faculty and students thanks to a $25,000 donation of tools and equipment from Harbor Freight Tools, Inc.

Harbor Freight contacted NETC this summer and invited the industrial and technology instructors to make a "wish list" of items that would be beneficial for training students who are working towards careers in the electronic, machine tool technology, welding, and industrial fields.

"We were surprised by the offer, especially when they told us to 'shoot for the moon' when creating our list," said Heath Milligan, NETC's dean of instruction.  "We received 10 pallets of equipment and tools which would not have been available without Harbor Freight's generous donation."

"Technical training has been neglected and underfunded in public institutions for far too long," said Eric Smidt, CEO of Harbor Freight Tools. "We want to help Northeastern Technical College to train the next generation of trades people.  With our tools in their classrooms, we can help students work their way toward meaningful, higher paying careers and strengthen families and communities across South Carolina."

The items received will be used in hands-on lab settings and include power tools, hand tools, safety equipment, air filtration systems, and large tool carts to safely secure these items.

"The donation will help better prepare our students for the work force," said Randal Watson, NETC machine tool technology instructor.  "It will give them exposure to a realistic work environment and also give them the opportunity to use tools and equipment that they may not have otherwise been exposed to."

Harbor Freight Tools, Inc.is a leading discount tool retailer in the U.S., based in California with retail store locations in Dillon and Florence, as well as a distribution center in Dillon.
