NETC to start Practical Nursing program in Dillon County

Northeastern Technical College has received approval from the South Carolina Board of Nursing (SCBON) to expand their Practical Nursing program into Dillon County. The expansion, which is slated for January 2020 will improve access to the college's popular nursing program for those living in Dillon county and the surrounding areas.

While the college won't officially accept students into the Practical Nursing Diploma program until January 2020, interested students are encouraged to get started now by enrolling in the Nursing Preparation certificate or CNA/Phlebotomy program. Classes start January 14 at the Dillon Campus, and both programs will give students the foundation of general education classes and/or nursing skills needed for acceptance into the Practical Nursing diploma program.

Northeastern uses a competitive admissions process for acceptance into the practical nursing diploma program. Admission points are given to students for scores on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), college grades earned through nursing prep and other certificate programs, residency, and continuous enrollment at NETC.

Jane Blum, Director of NETC Nursing Department, and a long time resident of Dillon County, is excited to see the program come to her hometown.

"I know that Dillon County has many untapped resources, and among those are future nurses just waiting for their opportunity to shine," said Blum. "We've had a lot of interest in our nursing program from the area. Now, our students won't have to travel as far. "

Blum added that the program will probably fill up fast, so interested students should enroll now to gain the basic requirements needed to enter the program.

"Students who enter the Nursing Preparation program are well on their way to earning their practical nursing diploma," Blum said. "Every class they take will be needed for the diploma. It offers students with a clear pathway to their degree, with no time wasted on classes they don't need."

For more information on how to get started with the nursing preparation program, or other allied health programs, students should visit www.netc.edu and look up health and public service under the academic programs tab, or call the office of admissions at 800-921-7399 ext. 6933.
