NETC to offer Mechatronics at Pageland campus

Northeastern Technical College is launching a new program that will set you on the path to a high-paying, high-demand career in local industry. If you are interested in a career in the growing field of Industrial Maintenance, then NETC's Mechatronics program is for you.

The Mechatronics program will be offered through the Department of Continuing Education starting August 22. Classes will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesdays at the NETC Pageland campus. Students will learn how to install, maintain and repair the mechanical, controls, fluid power systems, electrical and electronic equipment found in a number of industries.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Mechatronics is considered a new and emerging growth area, and its also been identified as an in-demand industry career cluster. Many industry sources have suggested that the annual wage is about $50,000, and the job outlook is bright through 2018.

Mechatronics is a combination of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer control and information technology that is designed to create more functional and adaptable products. NETC's program will provide students with the skills needed to land an entry-level job in many industries that use automation, including automation equipment installation, troubleshooting and maintenance and PLC programming

Currently, NETC has scholarships available that provide 100% funding for those who are unemployed, underemployed, or veterans who might want to "re-career" into the field of Industrial Maintenance and Mechatronics.

All applicants must be at least 18 years old; successfully complete a drug screen and background check ($35 fee); score Silver (4) or better on the WorkKeys Career Readiness test; and have a high school diploma or GED. Candidates who qualify should be prepared to adhere to the attendance policy and satisfactorily complete all components of the training.

For more information about the program, or to check eligibility for scholarship funding, call the Continuing Education Department at (843) 921-6920 to get started by scheduling your WorkKeys test and begin the registration process.
