NETC hosts signing day for NJCAA athletic teams

Athletics Signing

Northeastern Technical College held their first-ever signing event August 11 for student-athletes joining the college's new National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Cross Country and Golf Teams.

Students signing to run for the NETC Trailblazer Cross Country team include Brandon Burroughs of Ruby, Curry Cannon of Cheraw, and Shawn Lucas of Bennettsville. Burroughs is majoring in nursing, Cannon is majoring in computer technology, and Jenkins is majoring in computer technology.

Students signing to play for the NETC Trailblazer Golf sports include Jonathan "Nathan" Jenkins of Chesterfield and Collin Stone of Florence. Jenkins is currently majoring in nursing at NETC, and Stone is majoring in business.

The Trailblazer Cross Country team will begin competing in September, along with the college's Esports team, which made it to the NJCAAE National Finals this past spring, and the Trailblazer Golf team will begin playing in Spring 2022.

NETC is actively recruiting student-athletes for the new programs per NJCAA guidelines. To participate in NJCAA sanctioned collegiate athletics of golf and cross country, student-athletes must be high school graduates, must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours, and must maintain a 2.0 GPA. To participate in NJCAAE (Esports) high school students are eligible for the Fall 2021 season.

Students interested in participating in collegiate-level athletics at NETC can learn more by visiting www.netc.edu and looking under the student resources tab, or by calling 800-921-7399.
