Northeastern Technical College recently received approval from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) last week to start a new sports programs at the college. The NJCAA is the governing association of community college athletics throughout the United States, and membership will open doors for students wanting to compete in sports in addition to their academic goals.
The NJCAA approval will allow NETC to start a men's and a women's cross country program beginning Fall 2021, as well as a men's and a women's golf program, slated to begin in Spring 2022. As a member of the NJCAA, the college will be a part of Region 10, and competing against two-year colleges in South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.
"We are excited to expand our athletic opportunities for students after beginning Esports this year. Our Esports team had tremendous success, and we are expecting the same from our new athletic teams. The addition of these sports gives student-athletes a chance to continue competing at the collegiate level after graduating from high school," said Christi Meggs, Director of Human Resources and Athletics at Northeastern Technical College.
As a member of the NJCAA, Northeastern will be able to add programs like Soccer, Clay and Target Shooting and Tennis in the future.
NETC is actively recruiting coaches and student-athletes for the new programs in accordance with NJCAA guidelines. To participate in NJCAA sanctioned collegiate athletics, student-athletes must be high school graduates, must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours, and must maintain a 2.0 GPA.
Students interested in participating in collegiate-level athletics at NETC can learn more by visiting www.netc.edu and looking under the student resources tab, or by calling 800-921-7399.
