More than a hundred students from Northeastern Technical College and Chesterfield County's four public high schools were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society on Feb. 19 at NETC's main campus in Cheraw.

The inductees were applauded for their outstanding achievement while enrolled in career and occupational programs.

"Your recognition for becoming National Technical Honor Society members indicates you are serious students and that you remain actively engaged in your academic accomplishments," said Dr. Annie L. Hough-Everage, the guest speaker for the event.

Hough-Everage is an alumna of NETC and a professor of education at Brandman University in Victorville, Calif. She encouraged the students to not give up on their dreams, balance their achievements with a humble spirit and be a role model for their community.

Heath Milligan, dean of instruction for NETC, and Tammy Haile, director of the Career and Technology Education (CATE) program, also congratulated students on their achievements in technical education.

Before new members were inducted, a candle lighting ceremony was conducted along with a reading about the honor society's vision and mission statements.

Inducted into the National Technical Honor Society for NETC were Michael Carothers Ahlberg, Natasha Marie Blanton, Jodie Lachelle Braswell, Karen LaKisha Brown, David Brian Collins, Toccara LaFaye Covington, Jarrett Christopher Davis, Melanie Carol Davis, Joshua James Odell Justice, Anna Rose Lindsey, Wendell Avery Miles, Kimberly Terllea Moore, Michelle Ann Richardson, Terry Nicole Ritz, Angela Elizabeth Rossianno, Ashli Nicole Sellers, Joshua Paul Thomas, Larry Glenn Thomas, Christian Bryce Tiller, Angela Lewis Turner, Joseph Adrian Walters and Matthew Charles Ward.

National Technical Honor Society advisor for the College is Melisa Johnson, and co-advisors are Michael Kaltwang and Michael Black.

The National Technical Honor Society was established in 1984 to honor student achievement and leadership, promote educational excellence and enhance career opportunities. This is the highest award to honor excellence in career and technical education in the United States.
